Knee Pain

Knee pain is very common and has become normalized as people mature. Simple corrections can be applied when tackling knee pain.

Many times, Kimberly has seen patients’ kneecaps or patella go through a tightness and weakness of the muscles that cross the knee joint and the patella. As a result, it gets rotated or tilted, which can be very painful and so Kimberly corrects that by strengthening the weak muscles and stretching the tight ones. She also ensures that you change the way you walk, squat and lift. It is astonishing how quickly the pain is resolved, and returning to your activities is feasible.

Generally, the problem is that the patella is in the wrong position, constantly grinding down on the cartilage.

As you mature, your joints can become arthritic. That can be painful and with arthritis you still need to be able to move those joints so you can keep them in a healthy state. Kimberly strives to educate her patients on the full scope of knee pain. Being at a younger age, you could do certain activities so trying to do those activities as you age is not always a reasonable expectation. She sets out realistic goals for you to achieve.

As individuals age and joints become arthritic, the impact on mobility and overall quality of life can be profound. Arthritis can cause stiffness, inflammation, and pain in the knees, making it challenging to perform everyday tasks and activities. However, despite the presence of arthritis, it’s essential to maintain movement in the affected joints to preserve their health and function.

Kimberly recognizes the importance of teaching her patients how to move their knees properly, even in the presence of arthritis. Through targeted exercises and gentle movements, she helps individuals manage pain, improve flexibility, and maintain joint mobility. By incorporating these techniques into their daily routines, patients can mitigate the progression of arthritis and reduce the associated discomfort.

At Highland Physical Therapy, Kimberly teaches you how to strengthen your knees, which have likely become weak through years of working, being in one position or overusing one area. Without realizing, you can allow your knees to become inactive and weak. Just by restoring that balance through the joints and the muscles, knee pain can become much less of an issue and in turn get resolved.

At times, there are structures in the knee that do need to be surgically corrected. Getting the right kind of rehabilitation after your knee surgery is extremely important. This results in you quickly returning to normality in your life. Whether it is the ability to work, do sporting activities, and getting up and down the stairs. Your recovery journey can help you get to the same position back to where you were before.
